- DONALD H. BANKER, JR.

An active member of Joseph P. Chaisson American Legion Post 41 for the past seventeen years, of which he was Commander from May 2000 to May 2003. During his term as Commander the largest Support The Troops Rally in Milo was held in front of the post. Don shares his military memories during the Lebanon/ Grenada conflict era. Joining the United States Air Force in February 1981, he attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, specialty training at Chanute AFB, Ill as a special purpose vehicle repairman. Upon completion of training he was assigned to a vehicle maintenance position at Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City South Dakota. During his last year, he was assigned to Ramstein Air Force Base some forty miles west of Frankfort, Germany. Two main events stick out in his mind: the first was a military vehicle service call in which he was a passenger when the vehicle left the highway and rolled down over a ravine, injuring his back; the second was his tour of the great cathedrals along the Rhine River in Germany.

Don was discharged in May of 1987 from McGuire AFB and returned to the Milo area.

He still has permanent damage to his back from the accident.
